Federal authorities seized 25 tons of marijuana and discovered an 1,800-foot-long tunnel for smugglers that led from Mexico to a warehouse in San Diego. The discovery was the latest example of the often-extreme methods used by Mexican cartels to smuggle drugs past the umpteen number of law enforcement in the San Diego border area. No one was arrested during the building raids and U.S. authorities said that the street value of the marijuana totaled more than $20 million.
20 million dollars worth of ganja? O how proud Marley would be! All kidding aside, this kind of issue really doesn't require much of an opinion. The bad guys are going to get what they deserve and there are going to be quite a few lonely stoners out there tonight!

Chilean Miners Rescue: all 33 men out
Chilean Miners seated along with Chilean President Sebastian Pinera (third from right) |
"We had the strength. We had the spirit. We had the courage to fight". Those were the fighting words of a recently rescued Chilean miner who along with 32 other comrades had been stuck 2,300 feet underground for 69 days. All this occurred when the 33 men became trapped after a shaft collapsed in the gold and copper mine near the northern city of Copiapo. It is not clear what caused the crash. 69 days later as the world held its breath, all 33 men were rescued relatively unscathed from their ordeal.
I had watched this tale unfold right from the start and I was quite relieved as the last miner was pulled to the surface. But right from the start I couldn't help but think, what sensations these men were going to become. Not only were they the talk of nearly every prime time talk show host, but it seemed everyone had heard about their situation! If only these men knew! But, as soon as all the miners were brought up and hospitalized a statement was released by one of the family members saying
that the miners have agreed to divide all their earnings from interviews, media appearances, movies or books. I said, WHAT? They were expecting to be paid major cash outs from the media? Now that's just greedy! And to make a movie out of it? Guess which blockbuster I won't be attending...
